A man was taken to the hospital after he crashed the Newsday delivery truck he was driving into a post office building on Merrick Road Tuesday morning.
The extent of the driver's injuries are unknown, fire officials said.
The man crashed into the post office at 2611 Merrick Road around 1:05 a.m.
The North Bellmore Fire Department responded to the scene.
Vincent Scaduto, public information officer for the Bellmore Fire Department, said that part of the building collapsed.
"They will shore up the building to prevent further collapse," he said.
Officials are still investigating the incident.
The Bellmore Post Office will have a mobile unit set up in the parking lot at 9 a.m.
