Curley Running for Bellmore Fire Commissioner

John Curley, a former fire chief, has been with the Bellmore Fire Department for 28 years.

(Editor's Note: Bellmore Patch requested editorials from each of the candidates for fire commissioner.)

From John Curley:

As you may know, the Bellmore Fire Commission is an elected group of five Bellmore residents who decide the budget for your fire department.  The commissioners are answerable to you, the Bellmore taxpayers.  This is a position of great responsibility ensuring that your hard-earned tax dollars are spent wisely.

I am a proud, lifelong resident of Bellmore who is raising my family here.  I served as a police officer with the New York City Police Department for four years and the past 17 years as a career firefighter with the New York City Fire Department.

Since joining the Bellmore Fire Department as a junior 28 years ago, I have worked my way up the ranks and served as chief of the department in 2007. Over the years, I served on many committees, gaining experience with working not only with the Board of Fire Commissioners, but with many firematic vendors, truck manufacturers and building contractors.

It is important to me that the Bellmore Fire Department continues to be the best-trained, best-equipped providers of fire protection and emergency medical services that it can be. If elected to the Board of Fire Commissioners, I will do my best to maintain these high standards without raising your fire district taxes.

In closing, I ask you for your support.
Thank you

Voting will be held at the Bellmore Fire Department headquarters, 222 Pettit Ave., from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m.
