Crimes Nearby: Mom Leaves Kids in Car, Vehicle Windows Broken

Recent criminal activity in southeast Nassau County.

The following information is taken directly from the Nassau County Police Department's incident reports. None of the defendants have been convicted of a crime.

East Meadow
  • A Queens woman left her young children in the car and attempted to fill a forged prescription for Percocet at Walgreenson 2474 Hempstead Turnpike during the afternoon of July 3, according to police. For further details, click here.

Merrick

  • Brendan Gahn, 34, of Merrick was arrested at George Court and Shore Drive and charged with driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an incident on June 25.
  • On June 26, items were removed from an unlocked car parked on North Hewlett Avenue.
  • Sometime between June 26 and June 27, an unknown suspect stole a GPS from a vehicle that was parked in a driveway on Illona Lane. No damage to the vehicle was reported.
  • On June 29, a backpack, pocketbook, cash and other miscellaneous items were stolen from car that was parked in the Gap parking lot on Merrick Road.
  • Salomon Samaniego, 30 of Jamaica was arrested in Merrick and charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and three violations of the vehicle and traffic law.
Seaford
  • Fishing gear and electronics were stolen from a boat in a yard on Arrowhead Place in Seaford between June 24 and 25.
  • A Seaford woman was arrested in Roosevelt on the night of June 29 after being observed by police stopping at a “known” Bellmore drug area. For further details, click here.

  • A window was broken on a vehicle parked on Dome Lane in Wantagh on June 27 with a GPS and sunglasses also stolen.
  • Two vehicles parked at the Coastal Gas Station on 1442 Wantagh Ave. had windows broken with assorted tools removed between June 28 and 29.
  • On June 30, Paul Caraccio, 22, of Massapequa Park was arrested at the corner of Railroad Avenue and Sunrise Highway in Wantagh and charged with driving while intoxicated (DWI), aggravated DWI as well as five vehicle and traffic law violations.
  • A Wantagh woman who runs a psychic shop on Railroad Avenue was arrested on June 30 after allegedly scamming a customer out of $4,900 to help "lift a curse.” For further details, click here.
