Crimes Nearby: Chiropractor Arrested, Drug and Weapon Bust

Bellmore 

  • On March 19, a jacket that was left unattended in the boys locker room at Mepham High School was found torn apart.
  • Sometime between 10 p.m. on March 18 and 10 a.m. on March 19, an unknown suspect scratched a vehicle's bumper while the car was parked on Grand Avenue.
Freeport
  • A female victim, while walking on Church St. and Main St. on March 21, was approached by a male in a white minivan, who continually yelled at her to get in. He threatened to arrest her and identified himself as a cop. The female then ran into PLS Check Cashing. He demanded the employees open the door, but they refused. They called police and he fled the scene. Raymond J. Roth, of Long Beach, was arrested. He's charged with first-degree criminal impersonation, second-degree attempted kidnapping and third-degree attempted burglary.
  • On March 29 at 12:35 p.m., a male victim, 20, while shopping at Avenue Men’s Wear and Shoes, was approached by a male black wearing a black doo rag, black shirt and red sweatpants. He displayed a black handgun and the victim ran from the location. The suspect fled as well. Detectives ask anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. 
Merrick 
  • A Merrick man was arrested on March 24 after he allegedly used a massaging device to touch a female victim's genital area during a chiropractic exam, police said. Click here for more details on this story.
  • Police are investigating multiple grand larcenies that occurred on the morning of March 21 in Merrick. Between 4:10 a.m. and 7:36 a.m., there were four incidents reported. The suspects removed four tires and rims from three separate vehicles. For more on this, click here
  • On March 23, a complainant realized that jewelry was missing from her residence on Lake End Road in Merrick, and she notified police.
  • Sometime between 2 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on March 23, a woman discovered that her car, which was parked in a driveway on Berkley Lane in Merrick, had its windows smashed. No loss was reported.
Roosevelt
  • On March 28, officers observed Rashad Cooper, 31, of Hempstead, sitting in a parked car near Horace Avenue and Lakewood Avenue in Roosevelt. Cooper was in possession of a loaded .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun along with 33 Xanax pills, four Oxycodone pills and six methamphetamine pills. The gun was reported stolen from South Carolina in 2011. Cooper was charged with four counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
