Cops: North Bellmore Man Drove Drunk, Had Brass Knuckles in Vehicle

A North Bellmore man was charged DWI and criminal possession of a weapon after he was pulled over on the Southern State Parkway Saturday morning.

According to New York State Police, a State Trooper observed a blue Jeep Wrangler driving on the right shoulder, just east of Bethpage Parkway. The Jeep was operating on just a rim on the front driver's side and a flat rear tire, cops said.

While interviewing the driver, Joseph Munsch, 22, from North Bellmore, cops said there was a "strong odor of an alcoholic beverage." Munsch allegedly failed sobriety tests and was arrested.

Police said that Munsch had a .16 percent blood alcohol level, which is twice the legal limit. Brass knuckles were also found in the car, cops added. He was charged with Felony DWI, felony unlicensed operation (driving while suspended for an alcohol-related offense), fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and traffic violations.

He was held for arraignment at First District Court in Hempstead.
