A member of the K-9 unit and his human partner tracked a burglar in North Bellmore this weekend, reported Nassau County Police.

Police responded to a call about a burglary at Rite Aid at 11:30 p.m. Saturday. As officers arrived, they saw a man fleeing through the rear of the building where a door had been pried open, cops said.

Officer Jeffrey Shaikh and NCPD K-9 Jake pursued the man and tracked him for 45 minutes before finding him in a large wood pile behind a nearby home, police said.

Officers charged Sergio Torres, 19, with third-degree burglary.

Saturday's incident was the fifth apprehension of a criminal by Officer Shaikh and K-9 Jake in the past few weeks, cops said.
