A Bellmore man was arrested on drug charges early Sunday morning after allegedly fleeing from New York State Police on the Southern State Parkway.
According to police, at 1:13 a.m., Farmingdale troopers attempted to stop a tan Chevrolet Malibu for speeding (84 mph in a 55 zone) on the eastbound Southern State Parkway near Newbridge Road. The Chevrolet exited at Newbridge Road and attempted to elude troopers.
The vehicle stopped after a short pursuit and troopers were able to place the operator into custody, police said.
The driver, Sonny Cayaban, 39, of Bellmore, was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fifth degree, fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle in the third degree, resisting arrest and numerous traffic violations including unlicensed operator.
Cayaban was held for arraignment in Nassau County First District Court.
