Bellmore FD Responds to North Merrick House Fire

The blaze originated in the computer room before engulfing the second floor of the home.

The homeowners escaped a fire that engulfed the second floor of a North Merrick home Monday.

According to North Merrick Fire Department Chief James Rogers, the fire broke out at approximately 4:35 p.m on South Drive. The residents were home when the fire started in their upstairs computer room, but they were able to escape unharmed.

"The fire pretty much consumed the second floor of the house," Rogers said.

The North Merrick Fire Department responded with five apparatuses, and they had mutual aid from the East Meadow Fire Department, Merrick Fire Department, Bellmore Fire Department and from the Roosevelt Fire Department.

"We extinguished the fire, nobody got hurt and we were at the scene for approximately an hour and a half," Rogers added.
