Eisenhower Dog Park Set to Open This Weekend

Calling all dog lovers! The Eisenhower Dog Park is set to open on Saturday with a grand opening ceremony.

LI-DOG, a non-profit organization that works to create dog parks on Long Island, will host a "Day at the Park," which will feature gift baskets, free dog food samples, raffles and a chance to win a year's worth of dog food.

There will also be an outdoor performance by Rick Caran and Jilli Dog, a poker playing dog who was featured on Animal Planet. Dogs will also be available for adoption from organizations Bobby and the StraysYorkie911 Rescue and the North Shore Animal League.

The grand opening of the Eisenhower Dog Park will take place on Salisbury Park Drive on the north side of Eisenhower Park at 11 a.m.

“Nassau County is pleased to be able to provide residents with an additional place to exercise and socialize their dogs,” said County Executive Ed Mangano.  "Dog parks encourage responsible pet ownership and lead to better behaved dogs, which ultimately reduce shelter overcrowding, since the majority of dogs surrendered to shelters are given up due to behavioral problems."

All dogs must be vaccinated, leashed and under control and picked up after at all times.
