Welcome to Bellmore Patch!

The week-long wait for local news is over.

Welcome to Bellmore Patch, the first and last place you'll need to look for information about our hometown!

A daily online local news site, Bellmore Patch will keep our finger on the pulse of the community, 24-7. There are already 30 Patch sites in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, and more are on the way.

Allow me to give you the guided tour, however if you prefer to hear about it, check out my Welcome to Bellmore Patch video.

Directory and Local Facts

Our street team hit the pavement for weeks gathering information on local businesses. Hours, contact information and photos are included for every Bellmore store, eatery, repair shop, etc. Our handy mapping feature will even show you how to get there. The Local Facts section will help you find where to turn for resident issues and government contacts.

Events and Announcements

Our events calendar is chock full of places to see and things to do. From library programs and board meeting notices to support group information and BINGO games, we've got it all. In the Announcements section you'll find all sorts of feel-good news about neighbors' recent accomplishments and life events. We couldn't cover it all without your help of course! So feel free to upload your own events and announcements directly through our site.

Fire and Police

We've teamed up with the local police precincts and fire departments to let you know just what's going on in our neighborhood. This will include fires, crime reports, accidents and road closures.

Opinions

You have an opinion and we want to hear it! Send us your thoughts on the proposed Aqua NY water rate hike or White Castle. Readers will also find columns and useful information from local politicians in this section. Interested in being a regular columnist who can contribute Bellmore-related content? Contact jaime@patch.com.

News, Schools and Sports

Ah! The driving force behind it all! Our Bellmore Patch staff will be here, there and everywhere in search of local news. We'll be in the audience at school board and civic meetings, on the sidelines at Mepham and Kennedy games, in the crowd at the Bellmore Street Fair and Strawberry Festival and videoing your kid's holiday concerts.

As the editor I pledge to get you the information you need as soon as possible. So if there's anything I can do to help you get the word out there, e-mail jaime@patch.com or call 516-749-1556. Become a fan of Bellmore Patch on Facebook and follow us at twitter.com/bellmorepatch.

Just a short thought to get the word out quickly about anything in your neighborhood.
Share something with your neighbors. Write a new post... What's up? Make an announcement, speak your mind, or sell something

So Lu Scala never had any children so it might be safe to say you have never been to a PTA meetingRead More or a School Board meeting or a budget presentation so then you would have no idea how the money is spent good or bad. I'm sorry that your neighbors make more than you but like anything else you get what you pay for there are educational requirements for teaching and administration jobs, I'm sure you would be happy if all the school personnel could be replaced by minimum wage earners or better yet we could close all the schools after all you have been out of school for 40 years so you don't need them anymore, but thats not how it works. Why is always the uninformed that speak loudest and longest?

A bit of a surprise considering kids come home with a supply list a mile long (and average $40-$75).
