I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday! One down, one to go!
Since things have slowed down, we should take time to reflect on what we want to see happen in the New Year. Are we repeating the same resolutions as in past years of losing weight, exercising and getting healthy determined to get it right this time?
We need to really figure out what went wrong in the previous years that we haven’t been able move on to a new New Years Resolution. We also need to figure out how we approached it in the past and what we need to change this time to finally be successful this year.
Did we try to do it on our own, with no plan or directions to follow, just hoping we knew what we were doing, and that we’d see results somehow? It’s easy at first to motivate ourselves — going gangbusters at first, starving ourselves and no idea what exercises are best for us, but at least we’re doing something, right? The hardest thing is to stay motivated when there are so many distractions, and no one pushing us but ourselves.
We have to remember putting on the weight and being a couch potato took no effort on our part. Taking the weight off and exercising and staying motivated is very hard work so it needs to be planned out — we can’t accomplish a healthy result with no effort.
This time we need to realize that we didn’t know what we were doing on our own, so maybe we could use some help. This could be by joining a gym or getting a personal trainer and/or a nutritionist, depending on what we can afford
If we haven’t been successful in previous years on our own, then we need to take the next step and join the gym even if it seems out of reach financially, we might have to make other sacrifices to fit into our budgets. If at all possible, getting a personal trainer to start out with would be ideal to learn what we need to get healthy. We should ask ourselves—are we worth it and is it important enough to finally achieve success? If so, we will find a way to do it.
So hopefully we take some time this week to think about what our next step should be for the New Year.
I wish all a very happy and healthy New Year.
Next column, I will give you some tips on finding the right gym for your needs.
