UPDATE: Power Restored Through Most of Bellmore

The latest outage information via the LIPA Storm Center outage map.

Bellmore residents were dealing with power outages as strong winds and rain ripped through the area Tuesday night, but as of 12:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, most of the outages had been restored.

According to the Long Island Power Authority's (LIPA) Storm Center outage map, less than 25 resident were without power as of 12:30 a.m.

The outages on Tuesday night consisted of the following areas:

  • South of Sunrise in Bellmore, 2,021 people were dealing with outages near Merrick Road, according to the LIPA's Storm Center outage map.Also south of Sunrise, near Lee Place, 10 customers were dealing with outages.
  • In North Bellmore, 1,703 customers were without power near the intersection of North Jerusalem Road and East Meadow Avenue. A short distance south, another 19 customers are experiencing issues as well.
  • In North Merrick, 12 customers are without power at near Jerusalem Avenue and Meadowbrook Road. Also in Merrick, less than five customers are also dealing with issues near the Merrick Road and Merrick Avenue intersection.
  • Across the Town of Hempstead, 5,328 customers were affected and Island-wide, 14,456 were without power (as of 10:15 p.m.)

The region was under a tornado watch until 11 p.m. Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

The alert is in addition to the Wind Advisory issued earlier, which called for gusts of up to 55mph. Wind damage has already been reported, from power outages in the Towns of Hempstead, North Hempstead and Oyster Bay to downed trees blocking roadways in Glen Cove.

I never had any kids.. and am the last kid who went to to the Bellmore Merrick school system.....itsRead More been almost 40 years since I was a Mempham grad..and it is very disharting to hear that my many many high tax dollars..are not enought for these kids I have been sororting all these years!!! Who is getting all the money??? Its all bull.. aI live inbetween teachers.. how is it they can afford high end cars, housekeepers, landscapers, ect??????... the money is being spent in the WRONG WAYS TO THE TEACHERS, AND MOST OF ALL THE ADMISTRATION, THE SCHOOL BOARD ECT... I AM CALLING FOR A MASSIVE AUDIT AND GET0 per year.. they afe not worth any more then that.. THE MONEY BACK FROM ANYONE WHO WAS PAID MORE THEN $75,00....

A bit of a surprise considering kids come home with a supply list a mile long (and average $40-$75).
