Civic President Announces Possible Organic Supermarket in Former Rite Aid

Reinaldo Nunez said that the supermarket, North Shore Farms, is in negotiations to move into the property.

Reinaldo Nunez, president of the , announced that North Shore Farms, an organic "Trader Joe's like" supermarket may fill the vacant at the southwest corner of Jerusalem Avenue and Pea Pond Road.

"They are in heavy negotiations and right now it looks very promising," he said at a civic meeting Monday.

The Rite Aid property has been vacant for more than five years. According to the Town of Hempstead Office of Communications and Public Affairs, a permit was issued for interior alterations of the property in 2011.

North Shore Farms has locations in Glen Cove, Mineola, Port Washington and Great Neck.

"I think it will be a good thing for the community," Nunez said. "It's an upscale operation and I think residents will be pleased with it."

Would you be happy if North Shore Farms moved into the former Rite Aid property? Take the poll and tell us in the comments below.

Great news, now make it happen. I'd love to hear the rationale of the one person that has so far voted against this. Yeah lets leave it empty, or better yet make it into another strip mall that can be half empty and half occupied by another nail salon, pizza place, and bagel shop. This could bring people from out of the community into NB, which will hopefully lead to more upscale retail shopping on Jeruselum rather than all those junky looking industrial businesses (seriously is it too much to ask that they stop parking vehicles all over the place and get out there with a broom and some paint to clean these places up). Of course I'm sure we'll be hearing complaints from short-sighted people with too much time on their hands, traffic oooooooooooohhhhhhhhhh NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

I agree with previous comment. I'd be surprised f this didn't happen- what could possibly be wrong with this establishment there? This would be great for the area and finally have something in that big lot that's been vacant for so long!

We prefer Iavarone Bros in my household.....My family's been shopping there since they opened; They make us feel like family....no need for another store 1 mile down the road. Plus North shore farms carries alot of below grade/ungraded meat....you could be eating HORSE MEAT for all you know! I know from a 1st hand experience that I'll never go back to them

i think this is a terrible idea. there is no need for this type of establishment. There are arleady plenty of fine food stores within the neighborhood that service the community and who have a strong tie to the community and truly cares about the people. North Shore Farms is expanding too fast and the bubble is sure to burst and/or quality if serivce and product will decline. WE DONT NEED IT!

I too agree with Dani and John Danoto. My family has been shopping at Iavarone Bros. since they opened, and will continue to shop there! Their quality of food and service is what separates them from the rest. No need for North Shore Farms to be right down the block! I vote NO to North Shore Farms!

There is nothing special about north shore farms. I would much rather shop at Iavarone Bros. Their prepared foods are delicious and they have the highest quality meats. And the produce is so fresh! Their friendly staff always makes you feel like family. I love it there! Wouldn't shop anywhere else.

I prefer Trader Joe's over North Shore Farms since Iavarone Brothers is only a mile away. In other words, Iavarone Brothers seems similar to North Shore Farms where Trader Joe's is quite different. But of course it's not up to me!

Natalie. I am so sorry to read this. I too have a little 5 yr. old dog who I love desperately...Read More and I feel your pain. There is another website for an organization that does an amazing job finding lost pets. It's LOSTMYDOGGIE.COM There is a small fee, but they get signs up all over the area and have a phone system set up where everyone in the area of where she was lost gets a PHONE CALL ALERT message to watch for Molly. They leave a phone number and their website address so if anyone has seen her or has her they know where to call. Great system! Check it out! I've never used them, but I HAVE received calls myself recently on 2 separate lost dogs and I've seen the many photos they hung up in my area in Levittown for dogs lost within a few miles of this area. In other words, they DO what they say they will do to help find Molly. Just want you to know what is out there to help you bring Molly home. My grandkids go to school around Grand and Camp Ave. We'll be watching for her! God Bless and good luck! I'm sure she will be returned to you real soon!!
