Temple Beth Am Collecting for Sandy Victims

Editor’s Note: The following was written and submitted by Sharon Wolfe Valente.

The Merrick Bellmore Jewish Community Council is taking up a collection at Temple Beth Am in Merrick (2377 Merrick Avenue - corner of Kirkland and Merrick Ave.) to distribute items for those in need due to the devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy.

They are looking for donations, people to volunteer and also people in need to come and pick up the items collected.

Among the items needed are the following:

  • Non-perishable foods
  • Bottled water
  • Clothing and apparel for all ages from babies to adults (such as diapers, socks, coats, gloves, hats etc.)
  • Blankets, towels, pillows, batteries, candles, flashlights
  • Toys, strollers, baby wipes …

This is only a guideline. Many people have lost virtually everything. If you can think of items that can help a family, please donate. Drop off and pick up times at Beth Am the Social Hall on Monday through Friday will be 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

We also need volunteers to help coordinate and distribute items. If you have the time, we need your help. (Call Jayne 516- 378 -3477).
