Kennedy Students Volunteer for Sandy Victims

Editor's Note: This article was written by representatives of the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District.

A group of students from John F. Kennedy High School recently volunteered in their local community to aid in the relief of Hurricane Sandy victims.

Under the leadership of teachers Lisa Scherer and Brad Seidman, students in Participation in Government classes have embarked on a semester-long community service initiative to gain first-hand understanding of how governments interact with communities and individuals in the wake of natural disasters.

In addition to helping out the Bellmore-Merrick community, the students also teamed up with AmeriCorps in Freeport and Long Beach, where they helped gut and clean damaged homes as needed.
