Students from John F. Kennedy High School traveled to Long Beach with Social Studies teacher Mrs. Scherer recently for the “Long Beach Comeback Crew” initiative where community volunteers helped rebuild the city.

The weekend-long event focused on community beautification projects such as landscape and design efforts and street clean-up. Hundreds of residents and visitors joined in revitalizing Long Beach one block at a time.

The JFK students, all members of the 12th grade Participation in Government, AP Government and AP Macroeconomics classes, worked unbelievably hard removing dead bushes and trees due to the flood caused by Hurricane Sandy.  They also raked, picked up garbage and planted flowers and bushes in the parks and on the medians throughout the city.

The city looks beautiful and the city of Long Beach was appreciative and very impressed by the hard work displayed by our students. Ms. McManus, Mr. Ubran and Mr. Graziozi were on hand to pitch in and help with the beautification effort.
