Cinco de Mayo Celebration to Raise Funds for Sandy Victims

Money collected at the event will fund a Sandy Recovery Resource Fair in late May.

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano announced that he’s joining with the Bellmore Knights of Columbus in a fundraising effort for Bellmore, Merrick and Wantagh residents whose homes and belongings were devastated by Hurricane Sandy and who are still struggling to rebuild.

The first fundraising event is a Cinco De Mayo celebration being held, of course, on the 5th of May, at the Bellmore Knights of Columbus Hall located at 2333 Bellmore Ave. in Bellmore.

“I commend the Bellmore Knights of Columbus for their efforts to help our residents recover and rebuild their lives in this Post-Hurricane Sandy world,” Mangano said. “We won’t rest until all of our residents are back in their repaired homes. Join the Knights of Columbus this Cinco de Mayo for a celebration that benefits many families and neighbors along Nassau County’s south shore.”

Money collected at the event will fund a Sandy Recovery Resource Fair being hosted by the Knights of Columbus in late May. Any funds remaining will be dedicated to the Nassau Hurricane Recovery Fund - which provides financial awards to residents struggling to recover from Hurricane Sandy.

“Please, continue your support for those still in need,” John P. Murphy, the Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, Bellmore Council No. 3689 added.

The Sunday, May 5 event will run from 3-8 p.m. Tickets are $40 and must be ordered in advance.  There will be drinks, music and raffles. For more information call 516-785-9407.
