Bellmore Family Seeks Community's Help

Hurricane Sandy ripped through Bellmore and Merrick and caused down trees, power lines and damage to people’s homes.

One family who lost everything was the Bergmans, a family of six who lives on Belmil Road in Bellmore. Their house burned to the during the storm after they had evacuated.

“Jodi has been a volunteer in the community and cannot count the number of times she has given of herself to help others...from girl scouts to pre-schoolers,” Carmela Ciminera said in an email. “From the elderly to the hungry, the list goes on. Please, make a donation to ease her burden during this trying time.”

A campaign has begun to help raise money and collect materials for the family. Ciminera sent out an email to spread the word, and she’s collecting gift cards for the family at her husband's office, which is located at 3034 Merrick Rd. in Wantagh.

The children, all girls, are ages 7, 9 and 13. They are all described as petite if people are looking to donate clothing.

“Please enclose the gift card or cash in a sealed envelope in the mailbox please address it to Jodi and place your name and email on the front with a card from you inside so she knows who it was from,” Ciminera said. “I will email you or text you stating I received it then I will put all the donations in a large envelope and give it to her when she passes by my house.”

Money can be sent via PayPal to jodi.bergman@gmail.com and is needed as soon as possible for food, clothing, school supplies and more.
