Chabad Announces Local Chanukah Events

Editor’s Note: This article was written and submitted by representatives from the Chabad of Merrick, Bellmore and Wantagh.

This year, in honor of the Holiday of Chanukah, Chabad of Merrick, Bellmore, Wantagh is planning its sixth annual Great Menorah Car Parade for Dec 8 at 7 p.m., led by two limousines with rooftop Menorahs, leading to the lighting of the Merrick Chamber’s 12 FT Menorah.

Participants will spread the light of Chanukah as they travel in convoy from the Merrick Golf Course Parking Lot to the Merrick LIRR (on Sunrise Highway & Merrick Ave.) culminating in the kindling of the 12-foot Menorah. Dignitaries and community leaders will give their greetings at this special lighting ceremony. There will be music, hot latkes, and dancing.

Chabad’s sixth annual Chanukah Wonderland for the whole family takes place on Dec. 9 from 1-3 p.m., during which all are invited to help fill the world’s largest Coin-Orah – that is, a Menorah filled to the brim with coins and bills. Proceeds to benefit Circle of Hope (a new center for Merrick-Bellmore-Wantagh which provides support for breast cancer patients, their families, and the community)

At the "Clubhouse at the Merrick Park Golf Course” at 2550 Clubhouse Rd. in Merrick, young and old will have a blast filling the world’s largest Coin-Orah with coins and watching a Latka Making Demo too. They will also experience Chanukah through hands-on Chanukah arts and crafts, donut decorating, face painting, photo-op with the Coin-Orah and more.

Suggested donation is $7 per child or $18 per family, and sponsorships are available.

On Dec. 12, at 7:30 p.m., at the ground floor of the Clubhouse at the Merrick Golf Course, Jewish women and  girls will enjoy an evening of Dreidels, Latkes & Chanukah fun, while also thinking of others - by helping to wrap "We Care" blankets for pediatric cancer patients.

Suggested donation is $10 per person.

For more information and details on the Chanukah events, contact the Chabad Center for Jewish Life at (516) 833-3057 or e-mail programs@chabadjewishlife.org.

Just a short thought to get the word out quickly about anything in your neighborhood.
Share something with your neighbors. Write a new post... What's up? Make an announcement, speak your mind, or sell something

So Lu Scala never had any children so it might be safe to say you have never been to a PTA meetingRead More or a School Board meeting or a budget presentation so then you would have no idea how the money is spent good or bad. I'm sorry that your neighbors make more than you but like anything else you get what you pay for there are educational requirements for teaching and administration jobs, I'm sure you would be happy if all the school personnel could be replaced by minimum wage earners or better yet we could close all the schools after all you have been out of school for 40 years so you don't need them anymore, but thats not how it works. Why is always the uninformed that speak loudest and longest?

A bit of a surprise considering kids come home with a supply list a mile long (and average $40-$75).
