One Bellmore resident is going out of her way to try to help local kids get healthier.
For Michele Gordon, it goes back to her senior year at
John F. Kennedy High School. She missed 47 days due to being sick all the time, and that empowered her to learn more about her health.
Now Gordon has taken her skills back to the place where she started, and she’s looking to help the area’s youth take a healthier approach with her new Adventurcise program, which is designed for children ages 3-10.
“Every class is a different theme,” Gordon said. “The main goal is about overcoming obstacles.”
Gordon, who’s a group exercise programming manager for 15 New York Sports Clubs around the area, added that her program empowers kids and also helps build their leadership skills.
According to her
website, Adventurcise promotes leadership, wellness, health, positive self-esteem in addition to broadening the intellectual horizons of today's youth.
Gordon is also working with the health teacher at John F. Kennedy High School to help reach high school students. She said that she hopes her influence will reach throughout the district.
“If they just change the way theyre eating or exercising, they’d probably do better on all their exams,” Gordon said.
Gordon said, for people looking to get healthy or lose weight, you need to take the proper approach to changes you make in your everyday routine.
“It should be fun, do what you can and just try to be active every day,” she said. “Make it easy for you.”
