MAMS Students Raise Money For Typhoon Victims

The school raised more than $300 to help victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.

Merrick Avenue Middle School  students raised more than $300 for victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.

The school recently hosted  “Helping the Philippines Day,” in which students, staff and faculty members were asked to donate $1 to the cause and wear a Filipino flag to show support.

“At Merrick Avenue, we are very concerned about making sure students understand their place in the global community,”  Principal Dr. Meador Pratt said.

The proceeds of the fundraiser were donated to the Red Cross.

“Just as many came to our aid during Hurricane Sandy last year, we thought it was important to extend the bounds of our community to help those in a completely different part of the world, because we are all part of the same global community, ” Pratt said.
