The Cake Gallery Creates Gingerbread Houses for Whoopi Goldberg

Only a few bakers can say they've whipped up confectionery creations for celebrities and The Cake Gallery in Bellmore is among them.

For nearly 15 years, owner Tom Shipley and crew have been tasked with creating a winter wonderland gingerbread house for Whoopi Goldberg's annual family holiday party.

Shipley even got to meet The View co-host this time around when he delivered the house.

"She was very gracious and nice," he said. "She said to me 'your work is exquisite and no one else could pull this off."

Goldberg donates the house to a charity or nearby school after it's on display at her family holiday party.

Twenty full sheets of gingerbread and 100 pounds of sugar are spread across 6' by 3' of this house. Battery-powered lights also adorn this edible home.

The Cake Gallery, first opening its doors in December of 2008, is the result of Shipley's nearly four decades of baking experience and passion.
