UPDATE: Police Say North Bellmore Shooting Victim Was Targeted

North Bellmore homicide was not random according to police.

A man was fatally shot outside of his 925 East Meadow Ave. residence late Sunday night, police said.

"We do not believe that this was random," Nassau County Police Detective Lt. John Azzata said. "We do not know of a motive yet, but we are investigating several avenues. We are looking into his business, social and family relations."

The man, who was believed to be between 40 and 50 years old, lived in an apartment located behind the dwelling on East Meadow Avenue. He was not related to the owners of the home, Azzata said.

Early Monday morning, neighbors peeked outside of their windows and watched police investigate the scene.

Michael Annor stood outside of his home and shook his head as he looked on.

"This is scary," he said. "I work as a home aid and my patient lives here, so I am here 24 hours a day. I was in my bedroom last night when police knocked on the door asking if I heard anything."

He said he is very surprised.

"Nothing like this happens here," he said. "This is not a bad area."

Police ask anyone who has any information on the incident to call (800) -244-TIPS. All calls will remain anonymous.
