Pregnancy and Chiropractic Care

Benefits of chiropractic care, prenatal and postnatal.

Many women experience neck and back problems during their pregnancy and following giving birth.  Many women ask "Can I visit a chiropractor while I'm pregnant"?  The answer is yes, chiropractic care can help tremendously in these situations.

Due to changes in the female body during pregnancy, women often experience lower back pain with sciatic like symptoms (pain radiating into the upper buttock and the back of the leg). This typically happens on one side only and although it can happen at any time during the pregnancy, the condition usually presents itself around month six or seven. This is extremely common and can be helped significantly through specific muscle work techniques and gentle chiropractic adjustments.  Bellmore Village Chiropractic & Wellness has a special table that allows the abdominal piece to drop down.  This allows a pregnant woman to comfortably lie face down while these procedures are performed. Of course, low back pain is not the only problem pregnant women encounter.  We often treat neck and upper back pain as well.  Either way, pregnant women are treated with special, gentle care that will not cause harm to your baby.

Chiropractic benefits for women receiving chiropractic care when pregnant include:
*Relief of back, neck pelvic, and joint pain improved
*Flexibility and strength
*Reduced morning sickness
*Improved likelihood of full-term delivery
*Reduced time for labor and delivery
*Reduced likelihood of difficulties during labor and delivery
*Reduced risk of cesarean sections
*Reduced pain during labor
*Safe and effective nutritional and exercise recommendations

Post Natal: It is not uncommon for a woman to return post natal with new complaints of neck pain, upper back pain, and even shoulder pain.  Of course, low back pain may linger, but we typically see the other mentioned complaints because you are now doing many new things, often without much sleep.  You are now carrying your infant around, lifting him or her often, leaning over a crib to pick him or her up, bending over to change a diaper, breast feeding, etc.  Never mind the stress of having to take care of your baby, all on small amounts of interrupted sleep.  All of this tends to cause tension in the muscles and joints of your neck and back.  Dr. Dana successfully treats these problems with great success.

Our office is extremely baby friendly, so do not worry about bringing your infant or even toddler with you for a visit.  We have plenty of toys and books for your little ones as well as a baby changing station in the restroom!

If you have any questions, feel free to give the office a call or email to discuss your concerns with Dr. Dana!(516) 809-9191, drdana@bellmorechiropractic.com Bellmore Village Chiropractic & Wellness is located at 110 Bedford Avenue.

Natalie. I am so sorry to read this. I too have a little 5 yr. old dog who I love desperately...Read More and I feel your pain. There is another website for an organization that does an amazing job finding lost pets. It's LOSTMYDOGGIE.COM There is a small fee, but they get signs up all over the area and have a phone system set up where everyone in the area of where she was lost gets a PHONE CALL ALERT message to watch for Molly. They leave a phone number and their website address so if anyone has seen her or has her they know where to call. Great system! Check it out! I've never used them, but I HAVE received calls myself recently on 2 separate lost dogs and I've seen the many photos they hung up in my area in Levittown for dogs lost within a few miles of this area. In other words, they DO what they say they will do to help find Molly. Just want you to know what is out there to help you bring Molly home. My grandkids go to school around Grand and Camp Ave. We'll be watching for her! God Bless and good luck! I'm sure she will be returned to you real soon!!
