SEPTA to Host Transitioning Fair at Calhoun

The Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District Special Education Parent Teacher Association (SEPTA) and the Community Parent Center will host the Sixth Annual Fair for Transitioning Students with Disabilities from 6 p.m. to 9:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 8 at Calhoun High School, located at 1786 State St. in Merrick.

The Transition Fair will provide information about employment, continued learning opportunities and government benefits for people with disabilities both in and out of high school from leaders in the field.

Attendees will hear from our panel of experts about gaining independence through assisted transportation;  grants; family supports; medicaid and non-medicaid services;  supplemental security income;  trusts and guardianships; prevocational services and supportive employment.

The event will also feature a student workshop and information networking opportunities with agencies, organizations, attorneys, parents and individuals who have successfully navigated the system to reach their full potential. Some of the esteemed guests will include representatives from Long Island Advocacy; FEGS; FREE; Head Injury Association; Life’s WORC; YAI Network and Andrew Cohen, Esq., among others.
