North Shore Farms Rep Speaks on BZA Approval

The attorney for North Shore Farms, the business that will be occupying the longtime-vacant building at the intersection of Pea Pond Road and Jerusalem Avenue in North Bellmore, recently spoke to Patch about the Hempstead Town Board of Zoning Appeals' Decision that went in their favor.

"Obviously, my client is very pleased that the BZA has chosen to approve the requested special exception to permit North Shore Farms to occupy the subject premises," William Bonesso said. "As you know, the approval is granted with conditions imposed, but the Board’s written decision (which will contain the conditions) has not yet been issued. Upon receipt and review of the same, I will be able to provide you with more appropriate and complete comments on the decision."

The building housed Rite Aid until 2002, but Rite Aid maintained the lease until 2011. While many clients have explored the property, including Western Beef, this is the first time a tenant has gotten this far in the process.

North Shore Farms wants to only do minimal work on the exterior of the building, which includes eliminating the area that was used for a drive thru for Rite Aid. That will be replaced by two additional parking spaces, increasing the total number to 86. Another concern was deliveries, and store officials said that none will be taking place before 6 a.m. or after 10 p.m.
