NEARBY: Walmart Market Scheduled for July Opening

New store will employ around 95 people, create 100 new construction jobs.

Editor's Note: This article was written by Steven Nicastro.

Long Island's first Walmart Market grocery store will open sometime in July of 2013, Hempstead Town Councilman Gary Hudes announced at the Levittown Property Owner's Association meeting.

The store, scheduled to replace the old Walbaum's on Hempstead Tpke. in the Levittown Mews shopping center, is currently under construction. A permit was issued on July 2 for work to be done on the interior alterations and building facade, with bulldozers and construction machines currently on location.

The market is about one-third the size of a typical supercenter and the store will employ about 95 people and create about 100 new construction jobs, according to Steven V. Restivo, Senior Director of Community Affairs for Walmart.

The first Walmart Market opened in 1998 and there are currently 215 locations nationwide.

I am sure that if it was to be in East Meadow it would have been fought tooth and nail.
NIMBY, too much traffic, union issues, it is not a Whole Foods for Trader Joes, they treat their employess poorly and other made up crap..... Good for Levittown A plus from me...

This is bad news. Wal-Mart is a bad company run by bad people. Yes, they will create jobs--low paying and without benefits. They will also hurt the local merchants around town. I've never seen a Wal-Mart sponsor a little league, give to church auction or support a PTA. All they do is demand tax breaks and flood are towns with garbage products. This is a sad day...

Paul I think it's time you do YOUR homework...You can't just come on and say that someone else is wrong without your own supporting facts...I'm guessing you get your info from mainstream media, like every other uneducated fool that thinks they know everything...You comment on everything that people post on this website, have you nothing better to do than patrol EM Patch?

Just a couple of Long Islanders that live in their bubble, and have no clue what the real world is like....

Todd - Walmart, just like most other large corporations, has an application process for donations and other support. You (the one in need) has to apply for funding or product donation. Walmart - just like all other large corporations, has a budget for the year. Once it's spent, it's gone and you have to ask next year.
They operate no differently than any other big corporation.

This is great news, but isn't that location a little small with limited parking? I wonder why they didn't use the K Mart location?
Jenn February 24, 2013 at 02:19 am
It's a Walmart supermarket - not a Super Walmart, and since it was already a supermarket for many years I don't see why it wouldn't fit or have enough parking.

ditto

Which way will Team Murray face when taking the obligatory photo opportunity during the Grand Opening. I am willing to take a bet their backs will not be facing the empty K-Mart across the street (its been that way for the past 8 years). Kate-Meister will say Levittown is a wonderful place for business and to raise a family. People are growing tired of you, worthless Mondello GOP puppet.

Oh, right...I didn't realize that the story was for a Walmart grocery store.

Natalie. I am so sorry to read this. I too have a little 5 yr. old dog who I love desperately...Read More and I feel your pain. There is another website for an organization that does an amazing job finding lost pets. It's LOSTMYDOGGIE.COM There is a small fee, but they get signs up all over the area and have a phone system set up where everyone in the area of where she was lost gets a PHONE CALL ALERT message to watch for Molly. They leave a phone number and their website address so if anyone has seen her or has her they know where to call. Great system! Check it out! I've never used them, but I HAVE received calls myself recently on 2 separate lost dogs and I've seen the many photos they hung up in my area in Levittown for dogs lost within a few miles of this area. In other words, they DO what they say they will do to help find Molly. Just want you to know what is out there to help you bring Molly home. My grandkids go to school around Grand and Camp Ave. We'll be watching for her! God Bless and good luck! I'm sure she will be returned to you real soon!!
