Mobil Convenience Store Hearing Adjourned

Tuesday's meeting with the Hempstead Town Board of Zoning Appeals regarding a new 24-hour convenience store in North Bellmore was adjourned to a later date, according to Mobil Attorney Kevin O'Brien.

According to a meeting that O'Brien held recently with the North Bellmore Civic Association, Mobil's plan is to have the same amount of gas dispensers on the property, which is located at the intersection of Newbridge Road and Columbus Avenue. The tanks are going to be replaced, and the building will be given "a bit of a facelift", including improvements to the stonework and facade.

"It's a little tired and in need of upgrading, " O'Brien said.

The property will no longer act as a service station, and current plans include operating a convenience store on a 24-hour basis. Also, an office area that currently exists on the property is slated to be knocked down.

"Other than that, the footprint of the property is going to stay the same," O'Brien added.
