Island Greenery Continues to Succeed in Bellmore

Last April, Gene Judd decided to move Island Greenery from Grand Avenue to its current location at 2036 Bellmore Ave., and he hasn't regretted that move for one second.

"Business is good," Judd said. "Because we are growing so much, business has naturally grown as well."

Judd, who was born and raised in Merrick, started by cutting lawns for his neighbors. His first experience in management came when he owned and operated Royal Landscaping, which served Bellmore, Merrick and Wantagh. In 2002, Judd purchased Island Greenery.

"I feel like I'm still home here in Bellmore," Judd said. "I have a lot of familiarity with the other merchants and the town in general."

On Friday, local leaders gathered at Island Greenery to celebrate the business' success, and Judd said he was thankful for everyone's support. He also told Patch that, at this point of the year, his work moves towards landscape design, masonry work, stoops, patios and things of that nature.

"It's been a long, slow process," Judd said. "We're taking our baby steps. We're really happy to be on the main drag now, and we're also happy to be a part of Bellmore in general."
