Got Cupcakes? Welcomed Into Community

The six-month old cupcake bakery has taken Bellmore by storm.

Got Cupcakes? on Bedford Avenue has become a culinary institution for sweet tooth's around Bellmore.

The family-owned cupcake bakery has spread like some of its vanilla icing by word of mouth and has gained notoriety throughout Long Island. It is appropriate that the bakery has gained a following by word of mouth, because the mouth is exactly where Got Cupcakes? does its damage.

"Their red velvet [cupcake] is unbelievable," said Ron Mare, president of the Chamber of Commerce of the Bellmores. "Everybody should come by and try some cupcakes. ... It's another family-owned company that Bellmore is so happy to have."

The nearly six-month old bakery was welcomed into the community officially on Friday afternoon with a ribbon cutting ceremony held by the chamber.

"It's a welcoming neighborhood,” said Nancy Moniodes, owner of Got Cupcakes?. “Bellmore is wonderful."

Also at Friday's ceremony were Leg. Dave Denenberg, D-Merrick, Town Supervisor Kate Murray, Town Councilwoman Angie Cullin, and Town Clerk Mark Bonilla, who is a Bellmore resident himself.

"We have a great chamber and we have a wonderful town,” said Jimmy Moniodes, Nancy’s husband. “We can't say enough nice things. … We couldn't ask for something better."

Nancy, Jimmy and their daughter Cassie live just three blocks from the bakery and are familiar with most of the customers who come in. They moved to Bellmore from Brooklyn 12 years ago and decided to give the cupcake business a shot after some of Nancy’s home-baked cupcakes started turning heads at her daughter’s sweet 16 a few years ago.

The bakery puts out more than 20 flavors for sale everyday. With nearly 100 flavors altogether, it’s tough not to find something to like.

More flavors seem to hit the menu each day. This week, Got Cupcakes? launched two new flavors: “Mocha Caramel Latte” and “Peach Melba.”

"It's been great continuously since we opened. ... I guess it can only get bigger and better as time goes on if we just make sure that we make people happy."

If Nancy didn’t say it right, maybe the bakery’s motto does: “It’s hard not being happy, while eating a cupcake!”
