Bellmore Snowflakes Not Going Up This Winter

Bellmore has begun to decorate for the holiday season, but one usual ingredient will be missing this year due to Superstorm Sandy.

The snowflakes, which have been mounted on poles in years past, will not be able to be used because the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) is going through inspections of the poles and the transformers on them.

"Some poles need to be replaced and we will lose some installed hardware," Bellmore Chamber President Debby Izzo said. "We will be replacing hardware over the course of the year and getting ready for an all out lighting next year."

"Thanks for understanding and passing the word around town," Izzo added. "We all have our burdens from Sandy. Let us continue to help those around us that need it in the spirit of the holidays."

What do you think of the snowflakes not going up this year? Tell us in the comments below.

Its funny, my kids just mentioned that they missed the snowflakes. I hadn't noticed. Let's hope for a better year next year.

We was talking about it this weekend while decorating the house, and noticing them missing in both Bellmore and Merrick. Then we saw this story.
I hope next year it will be better and also maybe fixing the dead areas where some of the snowfalkes wasn't lit (maybe a bad connection someplace). Otherwise it won't be the same without seeing them this year.

Last night driving to a friend's in Merrick I did see the lighted snowflakes on Merrick Ave and here the Bellmore village with the lighted garland over Bedford Ave. So at least we'are getting into the holiday around.

Natalie. I am so sorry to read this. I too have a little 5 yr. old dog who I love desperately...Read More and I feel your pain. There is another website for an organization that does an amazing job finding lost pets. It's LOSTMYDOGGIE.COM There is a small fee, but they get signs up all over the area and have a phone system set up where everyone in the area of where she was lost gets a PHONE CALL ALERT message to watch for Molly. They leave a phone number and their website address so if anyone has seen her or has her they know where to call. Great system! Check it out! I've never used them, but I HAVE received calls myself recently on 2 separate lost dogs and I've seen the many photos they hung up in my area in Levittown for dogs lost within a few miles of this area. In other words, they DO what they say they will do to help find Molly. Just want you to know what is out there to help you bring Molly home. My grandkids go to school around Grand and Camp Ave. We'll be watching for her! God Bless and good luck! I'm sure she will be returned to you real soon!!
