Local residents who have been waiting for a coffee house with free WiFi are soon going to have a new place to go in Bellmore.
Bellmore Bean, which is the brainchild of Bill Polara, who grew up in Bellmore, is slated to open soon at 2718 Grand Ave. The new business will offer free wireless internet, couches and a relaxed atmosphere, according to Polara.
"There’s too many bars around here as it is," Polara said. "So I
thought, let’s open a coffee house."
There was plenty of work to be done to the building before Polara, who's owned
Polara Jewelers on Bedford Avenue for 38 years, could open for business. He had the ceilings, which were made out of old-fashioned tin, restored. He also made improvements to the walls and had the floor, which hadn't been changed in 87 years, taken care of.
"We’re going to serve coffees, ground coffee and
we’re going to sell coffee by the pound," Polara added. "We’re also going to have free WiFi,
music on the weekends, maybe a couple of readings as well."
Polara said that this new business will provide those who don't drink a new option for somewhere to go to have a good time. He also said that he'd like to open up during Halloween week, but he is not sure about specifics yet, because he is waiting on a few things from the Hempstead Town Buildings Department.
"The town doesn’t really have anything like this," Polara said. "We’re going to have a few couches, a few tables…nothing crazy, but it’s going
to be nice."
