A Rose Grows on Bedford Avenue

Morning Rose Cafe opened in the former My Candi property in November.

Rose Tzanetos, of Merrick, loves breakfast and for years she searched for the perfect spot to get a decent one.

"Breakfast is the most fun and unique meal of all," she said. "I love waffles, pancakes and everything."

In November, Tzanetos opened Morning Rose Cafe, a restaurant dedicated to giving patrons a variety of morning time meals all day long, in the former My Candi building at 317 Bedford Ave.

"For 18 years my husband and I could not find a good place to get breakfast  that was not a diner," she said. "I wanted my place to be different and very diverse."

The eatery offers gourmet breakfast foods such as pancakes, fittatas, omelets and waffles.

"All of our foods are made fresh," Tzanetos said.

The restaurant also serves lunch items such as sandwiches, burgers and soups.

On a rainy day, the small cafe with pale yellow walls and red roses on the brown wooden tables, was filled with patrons enjoying their meals.

Daniela Tobie of Wantagh had a lunch date with her friends, Kristy Vano and Maria Barone.

Tobie said that she devoured a grilled cheese sandwich with truffle potato corn chowder.

"My soup was like a taste of heaven," she said. "This place really feels like home."

Vano agreed.

"We love the atmosphere and the food was delicious," she said.

Even though Morning Rose Cafe has been open on Bedford Avenue for less than a month, business has been good, Tzanetos said.

"The response has been wonderful," she said. "I think that this is much needed in Bellmore-Merrick."
