Bellmore-Merrick Schools Closed Wednesday

For the third straight day, Hurricane Sandy has forced Bellmore and Merrick school officials to close up shop on Wednesday.

This includes the Bellmore, North Bellmore, Merrick, North Merrick and Bellmore-Merrick Central High School Districts.

According to an email from North Merrick Superintendent David Feller, the decision was made to help restore things in a safe manner.

"I hope you are ok in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy," Feller said to parents. "This decision is being made as much of the community is still without power. Also, with many downed trees and power lines, it would be a safer situation for us not to have school tomorrow. This will give you and our officials more time to devote to the needed clean up and restoration of basic services.
