Bellmore-Merrick CHSD Closed Tuesday

The Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District will be closed on Tuesday, but will reopen for students on Wednesday.

This includes Mepham, Kennedy and Calhoun High Schools, as well as Grand and Merrick Avenue Middle Schools.

According to district officials, staff will report to the buildings Tuesday from 8 a.m. until noon, and students will return to school Wednesday at normal time.

All of the buildings have power, although some are running on generators, according to sources. All schools will have heated food as well.

According to Calhoun High School's Twitter feed, there will be collections held at the school for those in need when school reopens.

"Calhoun will be collecting supplies for people in need," the tweet said. "Starting Wednesday, you can bring water, non-perishable food, etc. to school."

This is a developing news story. Patch will provide more information as it's made available.

Nothing is mentioned about Bus Service. Do we have to carpool and drive the kids in or will buses be provided as normal?

Not sure about that yet. We'll let you know. MG

Bellmore School District said they are having a fuel shortgage for bus transportation they are trying to resolve.
Tom Baxter November 05, 2012 at 10:32 PM
Judging by the long lines of cars going to the local schools every morning, no buses are needed anyway.
Mrsderanged November 05, 2012 at 10:58 PM
Ummmm yes, buses ARE needed. I can not speak for any other family, only my own. My kids use the bus every day and need the bus to get to and from the school. So please, Tom, do not speak for anyone other than yourself and your own families' needs. @ James: I am not talking about the Elementary schools, I am talking about the Bellmore-Merrick CHS District, which include the Middle Schools and High Schools (and is what this specific article is talking about). For my family, the bus system is a necessity. Thanks MG, I await your reply so I can plan for Wed. accordingly.

There is a fuel issue with all buses for Bellmore Merrick elementray of High School. Look on Merrick Rd or Sunrise there is a semi serious disaster with lack of fuel on Long island right now.
Mrsderanged November 06, 2012 at 12:35 PM
@ James: Thanks but I'm not blind or stupid. I am very well aware of the fuel situation, or lack there of. I'm pretty sure my comment made that blatantly obvious. That is why MG said he will find out and let us know. Hence my inquiry as to if there will be bus service when the middle school returns on Wed. I want to know how to plan accordingly. The only schools that have mentioned about there not being bus service were the elementary schools. The middle schools have not said a word about it yet. I do not want my kids standing outside in the cold waiting for a bus that will never show. This is why I am asking. I just want to know if we should be calling around looking for carpools or if the buses will indeed show up. Not sure why this is so difficult to comprehend? It is truly a simple question. Hopefully MG will find out for us and reply before the day is out.
