The Cupcake Lady Hosts Annual Cupcake Eating Contest

Proceeds of the event will be donated to Long Island Cares.

On a scorching summer afternoon, local residents competed to win a victory--a sweet one that is.

The Cupcake Lady, formally known as Got Cupcakes?, held it's third Annual Cupcake Eating Contest on Sunday. This year the proceeds of the event will go to Long Island Cares, the region's first food bank that serves individuals and families in need.

Owner Nancy Moniodes said that she was pleased with the turnout.

"It's even bigger and better," she said. "I am beside myself on how big it is this year."

More than 20 participants of all ages competed to devour cupcakes in record time.

Danielle Manganiello of Bellmore was one of the winners in the kids competition.

"It feels good," the 6-year-old said. "I practiced with a cupcake last night."

Kevin Sloan of Oceanside won the adult competition, eating 12 cupcakes in less than three minutes.

"It feels awesome," he said. "I love cupcakes."

More than sweet pastries, the event was about helping others.

Moniodes said that Long Island Cares was the perfect organization to donate to.

"Long Island Cares does so many wonderful things for people with many needs," she said.

Attendees of the cupcake eating contest also donated canned foods.

Scott Passik, a volunteer with Long Island Cares, said that he was thankful to the community and The Cupcake Lady.

"Nancy has been great and everyone has been wonderful," he said.
