With construction continuing on Newbridge Road in East Meadow and on the border of Bellmore, many residents have contacted Patch inquiring as to what's going on next.
The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) addressed what the latest work is about in an email.
"NYSDOT is not making any changes on NY Route 106/Newbridge Road, but we are removing the old then providing new pavement markings to help improve visibility and safety," Eileen Peters, a state spokesperson, said. "It is basically a moving operation to provide new crosswalk, stop bars, arrows, letters, long-line (travel lane) pavement markings to better guide drivers."
"This work is taking place both day and night during off-peak travel times and is expected to be completed in about two weeks, weather permitting," she added. "One last fact: NYSDOT strives to replace pavement markings every three years to maintain motorists’ safety."
Two additional traffic lights have been installed at Amherst Street/Lawn Drive and Second Avenue, as the aim is to help traffic flow on the oft-traveled East Meadow roadway.
