Feb. 15: Smoking Prohibited on LIRR Platforms, East Meadow Man Arrested for Identity Theft

The five things you should know today.

1. New York State Law now prohibits smoking on all Long Island Railroad platforms, boarding and ticketing areas. Metropolitan Transportation Authority Police will begin to enforce the law on Feb. 15.

2. The United States Department of Justice (DOJ) announced that an East Meadow man was arrested and charged with identity theft and tax fraud after he allegedly filed more than 200 false tax returns, according to 7th Space Interactive. Read more here.

3. The Bellmore Board of Education assured parents that they will maintain a high quality of education during the 2012-2013 budget--the first held under the New York State imposed two percent tax cap. Read more here.
