Adoptable Animal of the Week: Meet Cane

Cane
Case Number: 8492

Hi, there! My name is Cane and I am a happy-go-lucky young dude. I love everyone, even the most unusual of strangers, and relish being petted and massaged.

Right now, I'm staying at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter and although I’m not terribly playful now, I may become more so once in a home. I do seem to enjoy playing fetch with tennis balls. Because of my exuberance and lack of impulse control, I’d be better with tweens and up until I learn some manners. '

I tend to get a little mouthy with certain handling (My paws, for instance.) that makes me uncomfortable. I am intense around my food, but I do not guard.

I also tend to be stiff and inappropriate with other dogs. I should really learn some manners and impulse control when around other dogs and even then, I’d do best having play dates and developing friendships with patient dogs who won’t take offense to my antics. Ultimately, I may well be happier as a people-centric pooch.

I have already had some training (sit, stay, come) and am eager to learn more for a taste of my favorite treats! I definitely need to learn to walk nicely on leash and not to leash-bite. Training will help us forge a relationship.

If you are interested in adopting Cane, please contact the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter at 516-785-5220 or email animalinfo@tohmail.org for more information. The shelter is located at 3320 Beltagh Avenue in Wantagh. Adoption hours are Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. All adopted pets will be spayed or neutered, will receive all required innoculations and will be microchipped, all free of charge.

Many loveable cats and dogs can also be taken home – at no charge – during the shelter’s “My Furry Valentine” pet adoption event on Saturday, Feb. 16 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

A bit of a surprise considering kids come home with a supply list a mile long (and average $40-$75).
