Half-Century Champ Ousted as Top Baby Name in New York

Jacob overtakes Michael as top baby boy name; Sofia continues to dominate for girls.

After a nearly half-century reign, a popular boys' name has been ousted as the top choice in New York.

Jacob beat Michael to become the most popular boy's name in 2013, according to the latest findings released by the Social Security Administration. Michael had been the top name chosen for newborn baby boys in New York since 1965.

Sophia dominated baby girls' names in New York in 2013. Sophia has been at the top of the list since 2010 and in the top five names since 2007.
