Rich and exciting event introduces attendees to a grand mixture of cultures.
For the second year in a row, Kennedy High School gave a big taste of the varied and colorful cultures of the world to Bellmore. Kennedy’s Second Annual World Culture Night took place on Tuesday, combining dance, song, and food into an expression of diversity, Spanish teacher and event coordinator Franca Fiorentino said. "This is basically a celebration of all types of dances and songs and cultures," she said. "We're just trying to get the culture out there, because people don't know a lot about it." The evening consisted of a series of distinct cultural dances and songs performed by members of the school’s Culture Club, reflecting many ethnic styles including Mexican Spanish, Indian, Chinese, Korean, Greek, Italian, Irish, and American …

The event was in honor of Vince Dantona.
A recent comedy fundraiser held in Bellmore Theater served to prove that, while life is fragile and can be taken from us at anytime, laughter never dies, and can often be the first step in healing from a terrible loss. Serving as both a celebration of the life for the late Medford-based comedian Vince Dantona, who unexpectedly passed away in February at the age of 62, as well as a fundraiser to help his surviving family, the comedy show held on Sunday saw Bellmore Theater filled with family, friends and co-workers who turned out to pay tribute to a special man. Randy Levin, one of the comedians who performed at the tribute, worked with Dantona for more than 20 years. “Nobody ever had a bad word to say about Vince ... he always had a smile …

Sara P s song, "Let It Go," addresses teenage suicide.
Singer Sara P remembered when she heard that a girl that she attended Calhoun High School with had committed suicide. "I was a senior and she was younger than me," Sara P said. "I was not close friends with her, but I saw how it affected my friends." A year ago, it hit closer to home when her producer's teenage nephew took his own life. "I actually saw how it really affected someone I love and I wanted to do something about it," the 20-year-old Bellmore resident said. Sara P released her single, "Let It Go," and started the "Let It Go Movement," an initiative to speak out out against suicide to middle and high school students. The song tells young people that the pain they feel is only temporary and that they can overcome their hardships…

Steve Seifer enjoys a fun and creative side-job making sculptures out of wire.
Steve Seifer of Bellmore has spent the last 30 years fashioning beautiful works of art out of the same stuff you'd use to hook up your household major appliances. A gifted wire sculptor who has developed a thriving side-business doing commissioned pieces, Seifer, who works a day job in the sales field, discovered his unique talent at an early age. "I get asked why I started doing this, and my joke answer is that I didn’t like my braces,” he said. “The truth is, my best friend’s parents brought home a wire unicycle piece from vacation, and after staring at it for a while, I thought, ‘I could do that.’ So I got some wire and made it exactly the same.” After making many more wire sculptures, each better than the last, Seifer, who was having …

The self-hating comedian heads to Bellmore for shows this Friday and Saturday.
He's best known as a radio personality, a New York Times best-selling author and a comedian — but he'll just tell you he is a despicable, fat-necked human being. Self-hating comedian Jim Norton will be performing four shows this weekend at the Brokerage Comedy Club in Bellmore. The term "self-hating" is appropriate given the comedian's website, the aptly named "EatABullet.com." The 43-year-old New Jersey native first entered the spotlight in 1999 on the Opie and Anthony Show. Since then, Norton has become a regular on the show as the "third mic" where he is well known for his radio characters Ted Sheckler, Chip Chipperson and the "lovable" Uncle Paul. In 2007, Norton was featured on HBO with his one-hour comedy special "Monster Rain." The …

The animated show that helped make FOX a network heavyweight may be ending over a money dispute.
The Simpson family and Springfield have faced the potential of annihilation many times before in episodes of the show. Now, they face their biggest challenge of all: cancellation. According to The Daily Beast, FOX executives have issued an ultimatum of sorts on "The Simpsons," a mainstay in FOX's lineup since 1990. If the voice actors do not comply to a significant pay decrease, the network will reportedly pull the plug on TV's longest-running prime-time sitcom, spelling the end for Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, Maggie and the rest of Springfield's characters. The publication reports that network executives are demanding that the actors who voice The Simpsons' characters must take a pay cut of 45 percent from the $8 million they earn per …
