#56: Enjoy a Tribute to Judy Garland

Film clips and recollections bring legend to life.

Bellmorites have the opportunity to spend a Sunday afternoon enjoying a retrospective of legendary performer, Judy Garland.

Jack Schnur, videotape editor at CBS for 30 years, will present “Judy Garland Beyond the Rainbow” on Sunday, Dec. 11 at the North Bellmore Public Library at 2 p.m.

The show will follow Judy Garland’s stage and screen career.

Beginning in 1936, at age 14, Judy Garland started at MGM in Vaudeville with her two sisters. After some small roles, in 1939 she landed the role that made her a star as Dorothy in “The Wizard of Oz”. The program will feature clips from that film as well as her partnership with Mickey Rooney in the Andy Hardy series and other musicals of the ‘40s. There will be taped recollections by Judy herself, Mickey Rooney, and some of her co-stars as well as her two daughters, Liza and Lorna.

Be sure to come back here next Tuesday for idea #55!
