Mepham Receives $5,000 Lowe's Toolbox for Education Grant for an English Garden
- School: Mepham High School
- Award: Lowe’s Toolbox for Education grant
Mepham High School received a $5,000 Lowe's Toolbox for Education grant to beautify their courtyard and to create an outdoor educational space. The grant application was based on the goal of improving the learning community at Mepham High School. Through this project, student and faculty volunteers were able to come together to design, plant, and enjoy the centrally located courtyard in an educational way. The school looks forward to sharing the English Garden with its students.
The intention for this project was to turn Mepham's ordinary courtyard into a picturesque and inviting outdoor classroom. Mepham High School's English Department Chairperson, Marie Netto, penned the grant and was delighted when she heard the school was awarded the funds. She stated, "Working on this garden project was a truly rewarding experience. Our students and staff were able to collaborate on this worthwhile and enjoyable endeavor."
Many teachers have already started to use the outdoor classroom to enhance their lessons. Students have thoroughly appreciated the natural beauty of the courtyard and have benefitted from the opportunity to learn in an alternative and scenic location.
Principal Michael Harrington said, "Our school and community will greatly benefit from this grant. We wish to thank our friends at Lowe's for generously supporting this important project."
